The My Book Live is a part of Western Digital's Live series. By live, it means, networking. It is a router-plugged external hard drive which allows users to access their files simultaneously through an internet connection. The technology is called a personal cloud storage or the Network Attached Storage. It ranges from a 1 TB model up to one that can hold 3TB worth of data. Let us remember that 1TB=1000 GB. Can you imagine how much data a 1TB model can hold? Well let us tell you. The 1TB My Book Live can hold up to 120 HD movies or 250,000 worth of MP3s or 200,000 photographs.
This external hard drive can directly connect to your home network and has a speed that reaches up to 100 megabytes per second. Now that is what we call fast. It can run to great speeds, possibly the same as your internal hard drive. It is a centralized storage device allowing you to access your files on an Ipad, a smartphone, anything that is wi-fi enabled.
It had a back up software for you to be able to secure your files. It is even compatible with the Apple Time Machine.
The Western Digital My Book Live Series also allows streaming through Blu-ray DVD players as well as a wide range of game consoles such as the Xbox360 and the Playstation 3. What’s more is that it even runs on Windows XP. Most external hard drive users are actually tormented by the fact that their recently purchased gadgets are not compatible with older versions of Windows even with their Mac laptops even their DVD players. But guess what, the Western Digital My Book Live range can do this all.
Some other customers have been saying that this NAS external hard drive has perfect compatibility with a SONOS music system. It was not at all hard to install and was able to detect various hard drives in their computer systems automatically with no needed configurations. Whether the computers were MAC or PC, the Western Digital My Book Live was able to connect to them all.
There were also consistent comments regarding the devices’s reliability, practicality and fast responses. This external hard drive does not only function for storage back up but for media streaming as well. There is now no need to keep several USBs or external hard drives for different purposes as the Western Digital MY Book Live can already do those things.
